David Beckham - Royal Wedding

I have read several articles saying David Beckham is not good for the MLS because he went to the Royal wedding this weekend. I have nothing against Beckham, my son thinks very little of him. I understand why he went to Italy leaving the LA Galaxy, I understand he probably views the MLS as a means to get back to form and make the English National Team.

Should he get the weekend off to attend the Royal Wedding. I think yes. When you are close friends with the Royal family and get invited to the biggest event of the year, it is difficult to say no. We have seen many players bypass the birth of a child, a funeral or a family wedding for the sack of the game. But a Royal wedding is different, it is a major affair and as an Englishman David Beckham is not in a position to say no. Sometimes the game has to be put aside.

A lot of writers have written that the Galaxy did better without him when he went to Italy, so let him go to the wedding, the Galaxy will do just fine. The first place Galaxy face the fifth place Dallas team. They will not miss him...

P.S. FC Dallas defeated the Galaxy 2-1....

2004 - US Women's National Team

2004.11.03 Us Women's National Team v. Denmark...
In another storybook ending for the US team, Mia Hamm scored her 158th international career goal in the 91st minute as the US National team tied Denmark 1-1, sending 18,885 fans in Giants Stadium into euphoria.

Denmark, the 9th ranked team in the world, would put the US behind early in the game. Merete Pederson beat Brandi Chastain to the ball on the right flank and calmly hit a chip over the on-rushing Briana Scurry into the empty net in the 8th minute.

The US never let down and the crowd stayed behind their team the whole time. When Hamm scored the stadium erupted into screams, from the mostly young female fans...

Jason Kries - Dallas Burn card # 832 (1999)  -- Carla Overbeck - US National card #837 (1999)

Launched in 1989 SI Kids is a monthly spin-off of the weekly US sports magazine Sports Illustrated. In each issue of the magazine there was a page of 9 sports cards (perforated) featuring athletes from all fields. I thought the inclusion of extreme sports, college athletes, olympians and soccer made this a great set of cards. Of course there are many baseball, football, hockey and basketball cards as well.

The first soccer card featured Ricky Davis, card # 58, Jul 1989. Soccer is well represented with 114 cards published from 1989 through 2012, with Mia Hamm being featured 7 times; Abby Wambach Kristine Lilly, Tony Meola, Julie Foudy, Preki and Landon Donovan 3 times each.  Wayne Rooney even got 2 cards!
