1996 Olympics - First Day Covers
Claudio Reyna - 1996 Olympics
I attended a comic book show today and had one of the artists, Ken Branch, whose specialty is sports portraits and superheroes, to draw a picture of Claudio Reyna on a 1996 Olympic first day cover. The 1996 Summer Olympics were held in Atlanta, Ga, USA, with the US Women's team taking the gold over China, while the men's competition saw Nigeria taking the gold medal over Argentina. The US men's team would finish third in group competition and not advance to the quarter finals.
Claudio Reyna participated in the 1992 Summer Olympics, Barcelona and the 1996 Summer Olympics, Atlanta, Ga...
Mia Hamm - 1996 Olympics
Drawn by artist Joe Orsak, this cover features Mia Hamm, who played for the US Women's National team from 1987-2004. Hamm participated for the US in three Olympic tournaments: Atlanta 1996 (Gold), Sydney 2000 (Silver) and Athens 2004 (Gold).

1996 Olympic - Half Dollar

The obverse of the coin was designed by Clint Hansen and features two women playing soccer, while the reverse design features the Olympic flame and logo of the Atlanta games.
Although authorized to mint 3,000,000 coins, only 165,000 coins were sold in the proof and uncirculated versions. The large number of coins produced by the US for the Olympics discouraged collectors. The lower sales figures worked in favor of those collectors who purchased the coins, as they carry higher premiums on the collectors market.
Other coins issued by the US Mint for the 1996 Olympic Games in 1996 were the: Olympic Cauldron five-dollar gold, Olympic flag bearer five-dollar gold, Olympic high jump silver dollar, Olympic rowing silver dollar, Paralympics wheelchair silver dollar, Olympic tennis silver dollar, Olympic swimming silver half dollar.
In 1995 the US mint had also issued the: Olympic stadium five dollar gold, Olympic torch runner five dollar gold, Olympic cycling silver dollar, Olympic track and field silver dollar, Paralympics blind runner silver dollar, Olympic gymnast silver dollar, Olympic baseball half dollar, and the Olympic basketball half dollar.

US Soccer Stamps
Besides the Olympic envelope issued in 1979, the first soccer related issue for the United States, 4 additional stamps honoring Olympic Soccer have been issued...1983 for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, 1992 Barcelona Olympics and 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The 1992 issued had the following printed in the selvage along side the stamp - The XXV Olympic Summer Games will be held in Barcelona, Spain, July 25-August 9, 1992..The popularity of soccer in the US has grown tremendously in recent years, and the improved quality of play has enabled US teams to become more competitive than ever before in the world soccer arena.

In 1994 the US issued 3 stamps to honor the World Cup, which was being held in the US for the first time. Along with the 3 individual stamps a souvenir sheet with all 3 stamps was issued.
In 2000 a set of four stamps honoring youth sports was issued featuring soccer, baseball, football and basketball.
